What is Avoto?
Avoto is a domain name ranking system similar to Alexa.
How is Avoto different from Alexa?
Alexa attempts to determine how many people visit a site based on how often people access
the site using Alexa's browser tool bar. So, Alexa ranks sites based on how often they are visited.
Avoto ranks sites based on user votes. Just because a site gets a lot of visitors does not mean that it is obviously better than its competitors.
When you look at the top 100 sites on Alexa and see that the top 5 are Yahoo, MSN, Google, YouTube, and MySpace, you haven't really learned anything new.
Of course everyone uses search engines and you already knew that YouTube and MySpace were popular. Our hope is that when you visit Avoto, you will learn something new.
You will not just find sites that have a lot of users. You will discover sites that others have recommended.

How do I vote for a website?
You can vote one of two ways:
Go to the Voting page by clicking the "Vote" tab on the top navigation bar.
Or, if you see the White Ball Logo ( ) on the site you want to vote for, you can vote by clicking on it.

How can Avoto help my business?
Avoto offers your business a form of free advertising. All you have to do is vote for your site and a link will appear in
the category that you choose. If you do not choose a category, the link will exist only in the "All Categories" section.

How is Avoto different from social networking or social bookmarking sites?
On Avoto, you can only vote for sites. You can not vote against a site. This means that your competitors can not
try to lower your rank. All that they can do is try to get more votes for their own site.
Do I have to link back to Avoto?
You are not obligated to do anything. However, there is no better source of votes than your own users. The Webmasters section of the site
can help you create a link to Avoto.
What websites can I vote for?
Votes on Avoto are counted on the subdomain level. What this means is that you can vote for example.com or whatever.example.com.
However, If you attempt to vote for something like sub.example.com/somedirectory/somepage.html, that vote will be counted for sub.example.com and the specific directory and file that you specified will be ignored.
In most cases, if you vote for a domain which is really just a redirect to another site, the vote will count for the domain of the destination of the redirect. For example if you vote for example.com, but example.com is really
just a redirect to Amazon.com/?affiliateid=1337, the vote will really count for amazon.com. There are some exceptions to this rule. We realize that some blog systems give their users subdomains that are actually redirects.
Don't bother voting for sexually explicit sites or sites that promote illegal activity. They will be removed.

How do I get people to vote for my website?
In the Webmaster section of the site, you will find a tool that will help you create a link to put on your site. When your users click the link, it will take them directly to a page where they can vote for your site.
You could also just ask your friends and family to vote for your site on Avoto.
Do I have to register to use Avoto?
No, there is no registration process to use Avoto. Our goal is to make Avoto as simple and effortless to use as possible.
What are the rules?
The rules are simple: You can not vote for a site more than once. If you vote for any obviously inappropriate website, its link will be removed from the site.
What is stopping someone from using proxy servers to vote many times for their own site?
Avoto sports an advanced proxy detection system. There is no way to detect 100% of proxy servers, but we can detect enough that it is obvious when someone is trying to artificially inflate their votes. Trying to inflate your votes this way will serve no purpose but to strengthen our proxy detection.
